PARENT GUIDE

Welcome to Makaku Class. This Parent Guide is designed to help you understand how our programs work and how you can support your child’s learning experience—whether your child joins our regular classes, group sessions, or exploration programs.

1) Our Learning Approach

We believe children learn best when they feel safe, curious, and encouraged. Our classes combine structure with creativity—students learn foundational skills while also exploring expression through music, rhythm, movement, and simple hands-on activities. We focus on progress over perfection and build confidence through consistent practice and positive reinforcement.

2) What Parents Can Expect

Your child will be guided by our teachers step-by-step. We create a calm, supportive environment where children can participate at their own pace. Progress may look different for each child. Some children become confident quickly, while others need time to warm up. Both are normal, and our teachers will adapt accordingly.

3) Before Class: How to Prepare

To help your child have the best experience, please prepare the following:

  • Arrive a few minutes early so your child can settle in calmly.

  • Bring any required materials if the teacher recommends them (we will always inform you in advance).

  • For younger children, ensure they have eaten and had enough rest before class.

  • Choose comfortable clothing that allows free movement, especially for music-and-movement activities.

4) During Class: Parent Support

Depending on your child’s age and class type, parent involvement may vary:

  • For early-age programs, we may ask a parent/guardian to stay nearby for emotional support.

  • For regular classes, children usually learn best with a little independence. We encourage parents to observe quietly and avoid interrupting unless needed.

  • If your child feels shy or overwhelmed, let the teacher guide the situation. Gentle encouragement is more helpful than pressure.

5) After Class: What to Do at Home

Small, consistent practice is more effective than long sessions. You can support your child by:

  • Creating a simple routine (5–10 minutes a day is enough for most beginners).

  • Praising effort, not only results (“I love how you tried again!”).

  • Asking your child to show you one thing they learned today.

  • Keeping practice time positive and short. Stop before your child becomes frustrated.

6) Practice Tips (Easy and Realistic)

If you’re not sure how to guide practice, try this simple structure:

  1. Warm-up (1–2 minutes): clapping rhythm, finger exercises, or repeating a short part.

  2. Review (3–5 minutes): repeat the lesson content from class.

  3. Fun finish (1–2 minutes): let your child choose a favorite part to repeat.

Even a few minutes of focused practice can make a big difference over time.

7) Missed Classes and Rescheduling

We understand that families have busy schedules. If your child cannot attend a class, please inform us as early as possible. Rescheduling and make-up options depend on program availability and teacher schedules. We will always try to offer a reasonable solution when possible.

8) Communication and Updates

We typically share updates through our official WhatsApp channel/group and/or email. Parents are welcome to ask questions, share progress, or request guidance. To keep communication efficient:

  • Use one message thread for one topic.

  • Share your child’s name and class schedule when asking questions.

  • If you want feedback, short videos of home practice are helpful (if you are comfortable sharing).

9) Safety and Classroom Etiquette

To keep our learning space comfortable for everyone:

  • Please arrive on time.

  • Treat teachers, staff, and other families with respect.

  • Avoid bringing loud food or items that distract other students.

  • For younger children, we recommend bringing a water bottle.

10) Screen Time and Online Materials (If Applicable)

For programs that include pre-recorded videos or online resources:

  • We recommend watching together for younger children.

  • Keep sessions short and interactive.

  • Avoid multitasking—focus improves learning.

  • If your child loses interest, pause and continue later.

11) Emotional Support and Confidence

Music learning is a journey. Children may feel excited one day and hesitant the next. This is normal. Parents can help by:

  • Avoiding comparisons with siblings or peers.

  • Celebrating small wins.

  • Encouraging consistency rather than demanding perfection.

  • Asking open questions: “What was fun today?” “What felt difficult?”

12) When to Contact Us

Please contact us if:

  • Your child is consistently anxious before class.

  • You notice discomfort, pain, or physical strain while practicing.

  • You want guidance on practice routines.

  • Your schedule changes and you need support with class planning.

13) Frequently Asked Parent Questions

How fast will my child progress?
Progress depends on age, readiness, practice consistency, and comfort level. Our goal is steady improvement and confidence.

Do I need musical knowledge to help my child?
No. You can support your child simply by encouraging routine, celebrating effort, and keeping practice positive.

What if my child is shy or refuses to participate?
This is common, especially at the beginning. Our teachers will guide your child gently. Consistency helps.

Can parents watch the class?
In many cases yes, but we encourage quiet observation so children can focus and build independence.
